5 Simple Ways To Make Working From Home More Comfortable

5 Simple Ways To Make Working From Home More Comfortable

With the increase in working from home due to Covid 19, employees are putting in more hours, juggling more responsibilities and dealing with the stress in unhealthy ways. This can ultimately lead to decreases in employee engagement, satisfaction and productivity hurting the overall company.

According to Review42, "A global survey conducted by Gartner, Inc. found that 88% of business organization all over the world mandated or encouraged all their employees to work from home as the virus started to spread at exponential rates. Furthermore, about 97% of the organizations immediately canceled all work-related travel."

Here Are 5 Simple Ways To Make Your Home More Comfortable For Working From Home

  1. Designate A Specific Space:

Designating a space helps you become more focused and less distracted on outside influences in your home.

According to Next Wave designer Noz Nozawa, “I don’t have a separate room so my desk is in the main shared space. I have all the gear I need: ergonomic chair, big screen, comfy mouse, and a fab cup for all my pencils. It puts me in the zone of ‘when I’m here, I’m working,' it helps me not get distracted by the kitchen (snacks!!) and lets me mentally separate after the work day is done.”

  2. Invest In A Comfortable Chair:

Unless you already have a home office inside your house you probably don't have the correct chair. A comfortable chair is the heart of productivity. You’ll probably be spending 8 hours a day or more in it so investing in a good one will make a notable difference to your work life.

  3. Sit Near A Window If Possible:

Sitting near a window can reduce blood pressure, increase productivity, and relieve stress. According to Lily Bernheimer, director of Space Works Consulting, "The field of environmental psychology, which explores our relationship with our immediate surroundings, has lots to teach us about being stuck indoors and creating an office in the home. The first thing to think about is where to sit."

  4. Clearly Define Your Working Hours:

Just as designating a specific space for working it's also as important to clearly define your working hours.

“The biggest difference between working from home and working in the office is that you are in charge of your environment and have to treat yourself like an employee,” Heather Yurovsky, Muse career coach and the founder of Shatter & Shine.

"If you feel yourself extending your work hours because you aren’t doing anything in the evening...tell yourself it’s time to put work away, recharge, and start tomorrow with a fresh mind. The work will be there in the morning.”

  5. Invest In A Desk:

You don’t have to go all out when purchasing a desk, a simple minimalist desk will do just fine. Remember, it's about designating a work space! Amazon has hundreds of desk with a lot of them being site to stand.

Here's a quick video that provides 10 tips for things that you can do to help you be more productive and efficient while working remotely.

What is Lorem Ipsum? Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum. Why do we use it? It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for 'lorem ipsum' will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).
